Pristine, Rare and Vintage California and European wines in the heart of the Napa Valley.
"....the most exciting collection I have yet tasted at this address, and indeed among the most exciting of its vintage anywhere." -- The Wine Advocate
Dear Oenophile,
We have been working on a world-class offering of Markus Molitor's legendary German Rieslings for some time, and it finally came to pass. This is a stunning set of wines at incredibly rare prices - hardcore German enthusiasts and newbies alike should grab some of these- they may just change your life!! The pricing is second-to-none!!
2011 Molitor Riesling Schiefersteil Trocken $16 WA91
"...Molitor's 2011 Riesling Schiefersteil A.P. #10 offers succulent fresh pear and apple perfumed with rowan and heliotrope. While 12% alcohol, this infectiously juicy, silken-textured offering displays an admirable sense of delicacy and lift, finishing with interactive, crystalline, stony mineral as well as piquantly vegetable sprout-like impingements and a savory saliva-drawing, saline, browned-butter undertone. I suspect that this amazing value will perform with virtuosic versatility over a least the next 3-4 years."
2011 Molitor Riesling Kabinett Zeltinger Himmelreich Feinherb $19 WA93
"At a mere 10% alcohol, Molitor’s virtually-dry 2011 Zeltinger Himmelreich Riesling Kabinett is as buoyant as it is lusciously juicy. Hints of almond paste and diverse nut extracts along with a lick of sea water and a garlanding of honeysuckle and apple blossom lend the infectiously-juicy fresh pear, white peach and apple matrix here wonderful depth, seductive allure, saliva-inducing savor, and next-sip compulsion."
2011 Molitor Riesling Spätlese Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Trocken A.P. #19 $25 WA94
"A quite deeply green-golden hue to Molitor’s 2011 Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Spatlese A.P. #19 seems to signal the combination of density with levity and metaphorically cooling herbal infusion that characterizes its palate. Juicy apple and Persian melon are winsomely garlanded with honeysuckle and heliotrope to accompany fennel pollen and high-toned herbal essences, while smoky, alkaline, and saline notes lend further intrigue along with saliva-liberating to this buoyant, creamily-textured, performance that manages also to be infectiously juicy and transparent to mineral, floral and herbal nuances. Hints of almond and poppy seed also make delightful appearances in the at once soothing and stimulating finish of this beauty, putting me in mind of certain delicate, buttery, fruit-filled pastries. This superb, complex portrait of a great site should be worth following for at least a decade."
2011 Molitor Riesling Auslese ** Zeltinger Sonnenuhr A.P. #107 $45 WA95
"The Molitor 2011 Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese two star A.P. #107 – some of whose 2,000 liters their U.S. importer already expressed an intention to offer (the corresponding 2008 is currently on offer) – manages the trick of capturing enormous richness from healthy, relatively low-acid fruit yet preserving infectious primary juiciness and displaying an almost weightless sense of buoyancy. Cinnamon- and nutmeg-tinged, white raisin- and coconut-studded, gardenia-wreathed apple jelly and marzipan inform the creamy palate of this remarkable elixir that finishes almost boundlessly and should dazzle for another three or four decades."
The Molitor family have been making wine at their estate for 8 generations. A little history: In 1984, at the age of just 20, Markus Molitor assumed responsibility for the parental wine estate, then just 7 ½ acres. Despite his youth, his vision was very clearly defined and ambitious: to help restore the wines of the Moselle Valley to their former glory, with unmistakeable Riesling wines true to their individual vineyard identity (terroir) and of extreme longevity. Precise quality of work both in the vineyard and cellar - without any compromises - together with absolute respect for the natural products of grape and wine are his guidelines. Each vineyard, each vintage should express itself in taste. He wants his wines to have structure and depth of taste as well as to inspire with the freshness and brilliance typical of the Moselle.

Like art or music or books, wine is a very subjective passion. Although we are based in the Napa Valley, we carry thousands of wines from all over this planet. The wines in this list represent various particular favorites of our staff: aged Alsatians, sublime Sonoma pinot, brawny Northern Rhones, steely Chablis, you name it: someone at BPW has picked this as a particular favorite. See for yourself.
