Pristine, Rare and Vintage California and European wines in the heart of the Napa Valley.
The legendary Proprietary Reds from LEVY-MCCLELLAN.
Dear Oenophile,
I'm stunned. This is not even a once-a-year, gone-in-an-instant offering: we don't even SEE these incredible wines for YEARS sometimes (they are so tiny production, heavily allocated, and subject to severe cuts in yield depending on Mother Nature and the winemakers final blends) - the legendary Proprietary Reds from LEVY-MCCLELLAN.
I am thrilled to have received a tiny amount of the wine to offer. Usually, there are literally only a few bottles to be had, and I send them to MY CELLAR (perks of being the B in BPW). But I feel there is enough of this vintage to offer a very small portion to my email list - so if you are receiving this, you're on the A-LIST. Sweet.
It certainly is hard to imagine a more rarified and pedigreed team in Napa Valley winemaking than Bob Levy and Martha McClellan. Between them there are more 95-100 point scores than you could count with both hands AND feet, easily, between their wines (Harlan, Bond, Sloan, Checkerboard, Blankiet....). But the story is more THE WINES, of course. To call this husband-wife team perfectionists would be understating the matter. They are driven to produce the absolute finest wines, no-holds-barred, at any cost. They always have. From the meticulously planted vineyard source in Calistoga (tiny yields would also be a gross understatement) to the severe selection and impeccable wine-making, these are some of the finest Bordeaux-varietal blends in the world.
The AMPERSAND is tremendous - the best Ampersand I have ever tasted from them. 100% Estate, it is blended from the selected lots that don't quite make the cut for the tete de cuvee. Darkly powerful, packed with richness and depth, it brings to mind things like melted milk chocolate, precise cassis/black currant aromas, blueberry extract but no sense of overripeness, rather, exquisite balance. There is plenty of delicious secondary stuff going on, too - torrefaction, woodsmoke...just KILLER.
The LEVY-MCCLELLAN (pictured) is the main wine. Take all my descriptors above and crank it up to 11. This wine has more uncutous power, length and insane levels of flavor and yet manages to be wonderfully balanced - it flows over the palate for minutes. A revelation.
2009 Levy-McClellan AMPERSAND $189 ($567 a 3-pack, individually packed!)
2009 Levy-McClellan $549 ($1647 a 3-pack, individually packed in wood case!)
Both wines are MUST HAVES for serious Napa Cab aficionados - this is the real deal and nearly impossible to find. GORGEOUSLY PACKED in 1-BOTTLE CASES! (L+M in wood, Ampersand in a special cardboard box).
As I mentioned above, incredibly limited, and will sell out today in hours. PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP or simply click the links below! ARRIVES TWO WEEKS!

Like art or music or books, wine is a very subjective passion. Although we are based in the Napa Valley, we carry thousands of wines from all over this planet. The wines in this list represent various particular favorites of our staff: aged Alsatians, sublime Sonoma pinot, brawny Northern Rhones, steely Chablis, you name it: someone at BPW has picked this as a particular favorite. See for yourself.
