Pristine, Rare and Vintage California and European wines in the heart of the Napa Valley.
Neighboring all the $500+ Chateaux, this little find will blow you away at under $50!
Dear Oenophile,
See the pic on the right? That's a typical day of tasting at BPW. I bet on a good week we taste 100 wines. See the one in the middle? The Chateau de France? Yeah, I never heard of it either, but DAMN. THIS is why we taste boatloads of wine- because every once in a while, we hit a mother lode, a vein of pure goodness that must be mined, quickly, before the rest of the world catches on.
Chateau de France is a relatively new project, but it stars Michel Rolland. The story here too is the vintage- the absolutely spectacular 2010 Bordeaux. Hailing from Pessac Leognan, where it neighbors Pape Clement ($150+), La Mission Haut Brion ($800+), and Haut Brion ($900+), it made a big splash with several mid-90's scores (93 from Wine Spectator for the '09) juxtaposed with it's incredibly reasonable price point (not to mention we have the best price in America on this 2010). With scores like that from '09, and the 2010 vintage exceeding all expectations, this 2010 is a no-brainer to get before the press hits.
Besides all that, the wine blew us away, one of the most exciting things I've tasted in weeks, dollar-for-dollar. I think of it as a "modern-styled" Bordeaux for sure, but trust me, that ain't a bad thing. Bordeaux! We love Bordeaux, and we love getting a killer wine at this level for well under $50! And we have the tiny-production Blanc as well!
mix and match a 6-pack for just $264 or a case for $528!
2010 Chateau de France Pessac-Leognan Rouge $43.95
A blockbuster. Powerful cassis, pencil lead, exotic woodsmoke, currant jam and fig. Intense and round on the palate, with great extract. The tannin reminds you this is Bordeaux, however, and this will of course benefit from 3-10 years of age. Great overall structure and harmony, a wonderful bottle of wine for the price, it could easily cost twice as much.
2010 Chateau de France Pessac-Leognan Blanc $43.95
Big nose - wonderful classic Semillon/Sauvignon Blanc - waxy, beeswax, lanolin and gooseberry, honeysuckle and a bit of citrus oil. Fresh, bone dry, zippy and delicious.
So, there you have it- a fantastic Bordeaux discovery and worth every nickel. I LOVE the pricing, and it is IN STOCK ONE WEEK! Have a great weekend!

Like art or music or books, wine is a very subjective passion. Although we are based in the Napa Valley, we carry thousands of wines from all over this planet. The wines in this list represent various particular favorites of our staff: aged Alsatians, sublime Sonoma pinot, brawny Northern Rhones, steely Chablis, you name it: someone at BPW has picked this as a particular favorite. See for yourself.
