2009 BODEGAS MUGA PRADO ENEA GRAN RESERVA RIOJA --- $55!!! JS97, WA96, V95

BUY 6 BOTTLES OR MORE --- $50 per bottle! Incredible price!

JS97: "Gorgeous aromas of ripe fruit, Spanish cedar and dark chocolate. Full body with beautiful flavors of fresh strawberries and raspberries. Super polished and refined. Lovely tension. Refined and polished. A wine with superb depth. Always a masterpiece. Better in 2018 but a joy to taste now."

V95: "Brilliant ruby-red. Heady aromas of smoke-accented red berries, potpourri, incense and vanilla show superb clarity and pick up cedar and pipe tobacco nuances in the glass. Sweet, seamless and broad in the mouth, offering concentrated yet vibrant red currant, cherry liqueur and floral pastille flavors that fan out steadily on the back half. A spicecake quality emerges on the impressively persistent, red-fruit- and floral-driven finish, which is given shape by smooth, harmonious tannins."

.....and that's only a couple of reviews! The Muga wine cellars were founded in 1932 by Isaac Muga Martínez, who originated from a family with strong ties to the winemaking industry. On the death of the founder in 1969, his children Manuel, Isabel and Isaac Muga Caño took over the reins. Two years later, they moved their headquarters to their present location in the traditional Station District on the outskirts of Haro. Bodegas Muga has continued to grow as the years have passed, but it has never lost the spirit or aptitude of a family-run company.

The winery controls every step of the viticultural and vinification process, starting from their vineyards and then to making their own barrels and fermenting and aging the wine entirely in oak. Muga is one of only six estates in the world that owns its own cooperage and they import the oak directly from the United States and France. Bodegas Muga is one of the oldest, most elegant and traditional Rioja producers.
