The Wine Advocate: "Thierry Merlin was new to me this year, but to say that he is one of the unsung stars of Bué would be an understatement!"
Indeed. I was pretty blown away myself - great Sancerre is a rarity around here and I jump when I find one. This is Merlin-Cherrier's tete de cuvee, all sourced from Le Chene Marchand. True to its pedigree, and from the excellent 2012 vintage, it is a radically impression-making wine. We have THE BEST PRICE ANYWHERE!
2012 Merlin-Cherrier SANCERRE "LE CHENE MARCHAND" $28.95!! (list and online $35 and up!)
This is Sauvignon Blanc at its finest. Unlike most of what you drink from California or elsewhere, there is a wonderful minerality and saline quality to this wine - not to sound kooky, but it's like licking an oyster shell. Steely, exceptionally bright and focused, with laser sharp lemon, grapefruit, and a sort of cool-mint feel about it. Super crisp and delicious, with a long finish and that fantastic mineral-like chalkiness that makes it so unique. This wine routinely scores in the low 90's, but the 2012 is not rated yet. Besides that, buy it because it's KILLER!
I loved it- we have 10 cases to sell- it arrives one week. Grab a 6-pack (only $174 bucks!) , you'll thank me!!
