Blackbird Vineyards Proprietary Red Contrarian 2007, 1.5L (WA94) from The BPW - Merchants of rare and fine wines.

Blackbird Vineyards Proprietary Red Contrarian

1.5L

Vintage: 2007
Region: US
Appellation: Oak Knoll, Napa
Condition: Etched

WA94
Rated 94 points by Robert Parker`s Wine Advocate: `Another noteworthy offering is the 2007 Contrarian, a blend of 46% Cabernet Franc, 34% Merlot, and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. Perhaps the most concentrated of these wines (although this is splitting hairs), this dense 2007 offers loads of licorice, black currant liqueur, camphor, charcoal, plum sauce, and spicy yet subtle oak in a complete, voluminous, full-bodied style. This impressive effort will benefit from 2-4 years of bottle age, and should drink well for 20 years.` -- Robert Parker in the Wine AdvocateAdditional Notes from the Wine Advocate: `This impressive portfolio was assembled by winemaker Aaron Pott and consulting winemaker Sarah Gott (her husband owns the incredibly successful fast-food chain of Taylor`s Refresher in San Francisco, Napa, and St. Helena - which makes the best cheeseburger and Ahi burger in the land). All of these offerings reveal beautiful balance, suppleness, and intensity. Production runs between 200-300 cases for most of the cuvees, with the Illustration maxing out at 1,200 cases. Blackbird`s mission statement is to make artisanal, Pomerol-inspired wines from Napa Valley, and they appear to be succeeding. The estate vineyard is in the Oak Knoll district, which is well-known for deep, loamy, gravelly soils.`
