Kopke 40 Year Old Tawny Port N.V., (RH93) from The BPW - Merchants of rare and fine wines.

Kopke 40 Year Old Tawny Port

Vintage: N.V.
Region: Portugal

RH93
Rated 93 Points by Roy Hersh (ForTheLoveofPort.com): 93 points
(NV Kopke 40 Year Old Tawny Port) Medium maple color with a greenish-gold meniscus. Scintillating scents of toasted almond, caramel, lemon zest and marzipan are pretty heady in this delicate brew. The intensity of the acidity immediately impacts the palate and provides the tension which cuts through the residual sugar in this nutty melange that features a smoky, nut infused impression of cr?me brulee and roasted espresso flavors. The finish is quite long, exotic and smooth and although on this night we only had a few hours to enjoy it, I know from previous bottles of Kopke 40, that it improves rather markedly with a few days of extended oxidation, once it has been opened.
