Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia 1999, 750mL (ST93, WS92) from The BPW - Merchants of rare and fine wines.

Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia

750mL

Vintage: 1999
Region: Italy
Appellation: Bolgheri

ST93, WS92
Rated 93 points by Stephen Tanzer`s International Wine Cellar: `(85% cabernet sauvignon and 15% cabernet franc):? Very deep ruby to the rim.? Musky aromas of dark plum, blackcurrant and tobacco leaf.? Then juicy, intense and sharply delineated, with lovely lift to the flavors of dark berries, minerals and cedar.? Wonderfully balanced wine:? sound acids leave an impression of great clarity and cut and a fresh, lightweight mouth feel.? Finishes with silky, suave, spreading tannins and a very intense, persistent saline/mineral element.? The 1999 vintage was not as good in Bolgheri as it was in the rest of Tuscany (for example, this is one of the truly great years for Brunello), as there was copious rainfall both during flowering and again in July, and a warmer than average summer with a very hot august.`
