Domaine Michel Lafarge Beaune Greves 2009, 750mL (BH93) from The BPW - Merchants of rare and fine wines.

Domaine Michel Lafarge Beaune Greves

750mL

Vintage: 2009
Region: France--Burgundy--Red
Appellation: Beaune, Cote de Beaune

BH93
Rated 93 points by the Burghound: `(from 80+ year old vines). This is aromatically more complex than the Aigrots with more iron and earth nuances to the panoply of red berry fruit aromas that carry liqueur-like scents. The rich, delicious and charming flavors display good power and focus on the balanced, concentrated and palate staining finish. This beautiful and decidedly serious effort is deceptively open at present yet it should repay a decade, or even more, of cellar time.`More information from the Burghound: `Michel Lafarge, and his son Frederic, called 2010 a `classic vintage of terroir that produced perfectly balanced wines that should enable them to age for years as they have firm yet silky tannins. However, in contrast to many vintages that possess the capacity for long-term aging, the 2010s will drink well young precisely because the tannins are so fine-grained. We began picking on the 23rd of September and brought in very clean fruit with potential alcohols that ranged between 12.8 and 13.2%. Unfortunately, there wasn`t much of it as yields were tiny due to the poor flowering. We did our normal vinification because if you had clean and ripe fruit, why change anything if it has worked for you in the past?` Michel, who has vast experience with older vintages, likened 2010 to 1962 and noted that `it does so in both colors, which is very unusual to have a vintage that resembles another in two colors at the same time.` With respect to the Lafarge ?09s, they virtually all came in at, or near, the top of my predicted ranges, which is to say that they`re exceptionally good.`
