Mas de la Deveze Blanc Vieilles Vignes 2007, 750mL (WA90) from The BPW - Merchants of rare and fine wines.

Mas de la Deveze Blanc Vieilles Vignes

750mL

Vintage: 2007
Region: France--Other Regions

WA90
Rated 90 points by Robert Parker`s Wine Advocate: `From a mixed vineyard of Grenache Gris and Macabeu - that combination which is proving synergistic at so many Roussillon estates - the white Mas de la Deveze 2007 Vieilles Vignes offers resinous, coniferous, and heliotrope aromas reminiscent of some of the estate`s reds (terroir + wood?), along with pineapple and lime. Lush and faintly oily in texture, it reveals nutty richness on the palate. The character of Macabeu (although it is the numerically minority partner) seems favored here, with a bit more breadth and creamy richness than pungency or invigoration in the finish. But there are illusive suggestions of stony minerality there as well. I would plan to enjoy this over the coming year. The 2008 was vivacious and well concentrated at three months.` -- David Schildknecht in the Wine AdvocateAdditional Notes from the Wine Advocate: `Multi-talented Olivier Bernstein has thrown himself into wine with abandon since founding this estate just east of Mas Amiel in 2003. He has also begun a negociant project in Burgundy (exclusively dedicated to grand cru and top-tier premier cru wines, he proudly points out), and his conception of Roussillon has certain analogies. `The aim is to capture ripeness in the fruit just before the acidity starts to drop,` explains Bernstein, as well as to capture a mineral dimension. So far, he is succeeding admirably, and with remarkable consistency. Among ostensibly Burgundian insights being applied to the most recent Deveze wines are higher percentage of stems, whole clusters, and un-ruptured berries as fermentation commences, as well as shorter maceration.`
