Camille Giroud Clos Vougeot 2009, 750ml (BH92-94, WA91-94) from The BPW - Merchants of rare and fine wines.

Camille Giroud Clos Vougeot

750ml

Vintage: 2009
Region: France--Burgundy--Other
Appellation: Vougeot, Cote de Nuits

BH92-94, WA91-94
Rated 92-94 points by the Burghound: `A fresh, earthy and somewhat somber nose offers up notes of primarily red berry fruit and floral hints that give way to rich, intense and supple medium weight plus flavors that possess excellent detail and vibrancy before culminating in a linear, pure and youthfully austere finish of outstanding length. This possesses excellent aging potential as the underlying material is most impressive. Again though, patience required.`Additional Notes from the Burghound: `Winemaker and regisseur (domaine manager) David Croix told me that 2009 `was easy. The growing season was largely stress free with a good amount of rain, which helps to explain why the fruit, and the resulting wines, are so different than 2005. The phenolic maturity of the fruit was extremely high which is why the wines are already so charming. In fact, I suspect that the wines won`t ever close down. The high degree of ripeness though contributes to generally higher levels of alcohol though interestingly, the pHs are still almost perfect at around 3.5. The fruit that we brought in ranged from 12.8 to 14% in terms of potential alcohols with a rough average of about 13.2%. Yields were reasonable though by no means low partially because sorting losses were extremely low. In terms of the wines, they are quite seductive and while I did not vinify these vintages, they remind me of what I have tasted from 1985 and 1990.``
