Domaine Leflaive Puligny Montrachet les Pucelles 2009, 750ml (BH93, ST93, WS92) from The BPW - Merchants of rare and fine wines.

Domaine Leflaive Puligny Montrachet les Pucelles

750ml

Vintage: 2009
Appellation: Puligny Montrachet, Cote de Beaune

BH93, ST93, WS92
Rated 93 points by the Burghound: `(from two very large parcels of vines totaling over 3 ha). A notably ripe but still reasonably classic Pucelles nose of honeysuckle, citrus and white orchard fruit aromas, in particular pear, leads to rich, forward and wonderfully opulent medium-bodied flavors that brim with dry extract that coats the palate on the refined and impressively long finish. As it always is, this is a classy wine of finesse but with a generous side to it in 2009.`More information from the Burghound: `Regisseur (estate manager) Eric Remy told me that 2010 began with a `normal winter but the late spring weather was much cooler than normal. On June 6th we saw the first flowering and by the 15 to 20th it was over. The summer weather was both cool and wet but with good luminosity. There was a hail storm in Santenay on the 12th of September that was accompanied by heavy thunder. Whenever that happens you can just feel that there is going to be an effect on the grapes and that effect is normally to accelerate maturities. We were going to begin picking on the 20th but after the storm we advanced things as rapidly as we could, which in this case meant that we started the harvest on the 17th. We were able to harvest quickly, partially because the fruit was largely quite clean but mostly because there was a lot less of it than usual. There was not much sorting required except in a few parcels that were most affected by the storm. Sugars were very good as potential alcohols ranged from 12.7 to 13.5% and thus nothing was chaptalized. Acidities were very strong and because there was a lot of malic acid, the malos were extended and several only just finished not long before your visit. We stirred the lees twice weekly up until the malos began as the new wines were definitely lean and linear. As to the wines, they resemble the 2008s but with more finesse.``
