Domaine Jean Claude Lapalu Brouilly la Croix des Rameaux Vieilles Vignes 2012, 750mL (WA93, VN91) from The BPW - Merchants of rare and fine wines.

Domaine Jean Claude Lapalu Brouilly la Croix des Rameaux Vieilles Vignes

750mL

Vintage: 2012
Region: France--Burgundy--Red
Appellation: Brouilly, Beaujolais
Condition: nl

WA93, VN91
Rated 93 points by the Wine Advocate: `The 2012 Brouilly La Croix des Rameaux comes from a one-hectare west-facing parcel of granite sand over schist, the vines here nudging 80 years old. There is a more Burgundian slant to the vinification with just a small amount of carbonic maceration. It shimmers on the nose with its scents of wild strawberry, cassis, orange blossom and wild heather that are all beautifully defined and focused. The palate is very well-balanced, although given the vintage, there is not the depth that I have found in other vintages. Still, there is a lovely black pepper note toward the finish that remains strict and linear. Apparently there are just 200 cases imported into the United States - make sure one of them is yours. Drink now-2017.?` -- Neal Martin in the June 2014 Issue of the Wine AdvocateMore information about this producer: `David Schildknecht has praised Jean-Claude Lapalu`s in previous issues, and if his recent releases are anything to go by, nothing is going to change there. Since he took over his father`s holdings in 1996 (the fruit hitherto having been sold to the local co-operative), I have admired and indulged Jean-Claude`s wines on many occasions, especially as his UK importer is around the corner from my house. He is one of the better known biodynamic winemakers influenced by the Jules Chauvet, but his wines never dangle that -Natural Winemaker- tag in front of you, rather they transpose the vagaries of Haut-Beaujolais with quite wonderful clarity, without recourse to SO2 apart from perhaps a couple of drops before bottling.`
