Domaine de Cristia Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes 2007, 750mL (WA96, WS96) from The BPW - Merchants of rare and fine wines.

Domaine de Cristia Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes

750mL

Vintage: 2007
Region: France--Rhone--Chateauneuf du Pape
Appellation: Chateauneuf du Pape

WA96, WS96
Rated 96 points by the Robert Parker`s Wine Advocate: `Absolutely brilliant and my favorite wine of the trio of 2007s is their 100% Grenache cuvee, the 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes. Aged completely in small, older oak barrels, this wine displays lavish quantities of blackberry and black cherry fruit, an intriguing floral component, and of course, the tell-tale kirsch, licorice, and lavender. Opulent, even voluptuous, and lavishly rich, with exceptional depth, texture, and a full-bodied finish, this is an enormously endowed, stunning example of old, old-vine Grenache made in an uncompromising fashion from a great terroir. Give it another 2-3 years of bottle age and drink it over the following two decades.`--Tasting Note by Robert Parker--More Wine Advocate notes about this producer: `Domaine de Cristia has come on like gangbusters over the last decade, since proprietors Baptiste Grangeon took over from his father in 1999. All of Cristia`s vineyards are in the northeast sector of the appellation, with their sensational 100% Grenache Vieilles Vignes cuvee coming from 70- to 80-year-old vines in sandy soil not far from the Rayas vineyard. They apparently only made one cuvee in 2008, a normal occurrence in Chateauneuf du Pape given that vintage is average to just above-average in quality.`
