Domaine de l`Arlot Nuits St. Georges Clos des Forets St. Georges 2011, 375mL (BH91-93, ST90-92) from The BPW - Merchants of rare and fine wines.

Domaine de l`Arlot Nuits St. Georges Clos des Forets St. Georges

375mL

Vintage: 2011
Region: France--Burgundy--Red
Appellation: Nuits St. Georges, Cote de Nuits

BH91-93, ST90-92
Rated 91-93 points by the Burghound: `(from an enormous 7.5 ha parcel of vines planted in the early 1950s). A brooding but notably ripe nose of dark cherry and pungent earth aromas slides gracefully into strikingly rich and tautly muscular big-bodied flavors that possess praiseworthy concentration. There is plenty of underlying tension and energy to the mouth coating and very serious finish that displays only a touch of rusticity. This is potentially outstanding but note that it will, as is usually the case, require plenty of bottle age.`More info about this producer from the Burghound: `As I explained in Issue 45, effective with the end of the 2011 harvest, regisseur Olivier Leriche left to start his own operation in the south of France. Leriche`s replacement is Jacques Devauges, who has had a variety of work experience in Burgundy with such Domaines as Denis Mortet, the Clos des Lambrays and Domaine de la Vougeraie. In 2005 Devauges left Vougeraie and joined with Frederic Magnien. Devauges commented that 2011 was a `very precocious vintage and from a growing season perspective it very much resembled 2007. The spring was hot and dry and then the summer was frankly lousy. It was one of those weird vintages where we had excellent phenolic maturity but the sugars just wouldn`t budge. We picked from the 2nd to the 9th of September and brought in relatively clean fruit that didn`t require much sorting. The potential alcohols were all over the place from a low of about 11% to a high of 12.8% with an average that I would put right at 12%. We used considerably less whole bunches than usual, in fact we only used them for the shot berry bunches. As to the wines, they`re fruity without being simple and I think they will offer much to like young but be capable of extended aging too if that`s what a consumer prefers.` As to the now in-bottle 2010s, they have all turned out about as, or slightly better than, originally previewed and I recommend them to you almost across the board. The 2010s were bottled between January and April 2012.`
