Fontaine Gagnard Chassagne Montrachet Morgeot 2009, 750mL (BH89) from The BPW - Merchants of rare and fine wines.

Fontaine Gagnard Chassagne Montrachet Morgeot

750mL

Vintage: 2009
Region: France--Burgundy--White
Appellation: Chassagne Montrachet, Cote de Beaune

BH89
Rated 89 points by the Burghound: `(from the sub-climat of Les Brussonnes). Here too there is mild reduction that detracts slightly from the appeal of the otherwise densely fruited nose of peach, apricot and melon aromas. There is excellent volume and noticeable muscle to the medium-bodied flavors that possess good levels of dry extract that confer a sappy texture to the intense finish. As is typically the case, this is not especially refined but it is balanced and delicious.`Additional notes from the Burghound: `The always candid Richard Fontaine described 2009 as `a vintage that produced extremely clean and ripe fruit. We began picking the whites on the 8th of September and despite rumors to the contrary, brought in grapes that had good acid levels. Sugars were also very good but not necessarily high as potential alcohols ranged between 12.5 and 13.5%. 2009 reminds me of 2002 when you consider the maturity levels, yields and acidities.` Interestingly given the general ripening levels at the upper echelons of the appellation hierarchy, Fontaine seems to have succeeded best in relative terms at the very top whereas many of his colleagues seemed to have done better at the bottom.`
